Google Maps Alphabets,Topography - Rhett Dashwood

Aerial Satellite Alphabets;-

Graphic designer Rhett Dashwood from Melbourne Australia scoured satellite images of his home on the internet until he had found every letter of the alphabet. The letters can be seen on buildings, bridges, rivers, trees and fields, and most would be almost impossible to recognize from ground level. It took him 6 months to complete his super-sized alphabet.

This Google Maps typography project is from Australian designer Rhett Dashwood. He compiled the alphabet using aerial shots from actual places found in Victoria, Australia on Google Maps.

I can't imagine how long it took Rhett Dashwood to find all of these letters just within Australia. We've featured a number of other innovative alphabet designs.

Implications - The digital world has inspired many artists to create original artworks that revolve around the world of the Web. Many are choosing to use these site as a substitute for post-production programs to bring audiences art that represents the technological generation. The capabilities of Facebook and Google Maps are endless for marketers looking to attract a generation who primarily communicate via the Internet.

"I found them exactly as you think I might have," he said. "Slowly moving from page to page over the maps and visually scanning"and "I put some simple restrictions on my project, like sticking to my home state of Victoria and not manipulating (rotating or Photoshopping) the images in any way"  !
