Google Maps Alphabets,Topography - Rhett Dashwood

Aerial Satellite Alphabets;-

Graphic designer Rhett Dashwood from Melbourne Australia scoured satellite images of his home on the internet until he had found every letter of the alphabet. The letters can be seen on buildings, bridges, rivers, trees and fields, and most would be almost impossible to recognize from ground level. It took him 6 months to complete his super-sized alphabet.

This Google Maps typography project is from Australian designer Rhett Dashwood. He compiled the alphabet using aerial shots from actual places found in Victoria, Australia on Google Maps.

I can't imagine how long it took Rhett Dashwood to find all of these letters just within Australia. We've featured a number of other innovative alphabet designs.

Implications - The digital world has inspired many artists to create original artworks that revolve around the world of the Web. Many are choosing to use these site as a substitute for post-production programs to bring audiences art that represents the technological generation. The capabilities of Facebook and Google Maps are endless for marketers looking to attract a generation who primarily communicate via the Internet.

"I found them exactly as you think I might have," he said. "Slowly moving from page to page over the maps and visually scanning"and "I put some simple restrictions on my project, like sticking to my home state of Victoria and not manipulating (rotating or Photoshopping) the images in any way"  !

Korean Twin Towers

Architects have designed a pair of apartment towers in South Korea that are unbelievably reminiscent of the 9/11 attacks on New York's World Trade Centre. These incredible pictures show how Dutch architecture firm MVRDV somehow managed to design the eerie 260-metre and 300-metre towers next to each other, connected by a ‘pixelated cloud’.

And in a good contender for quote of the year, a company statement insists they did not ‘see the resemblance during the design process’ for the buildings - due to be completed in Seoul in 2015.

The luxury residential towers have been named ‘The Cloud’, with one reaching 260 metres or 54 floors and the other covering 60 floors over 300 metres. The total surface area is 128,000 sq metres.

The ‘cloud' is housed in a 10-floor tall structure positioned halfway up the structures, and the towers feature a fitness studio, pools, restaurants, cafes and a conference centre.

Underground town in South Australia

Coober Pedy is a small Australian town with population of about 2,000 people. It is well-known as an underground town. Coober Pedy is also known as the world’s opal capital with 30% global opals mined here. As for the town name, it is translated as “whitemans hole” from the Aboriginal term kupa-piti.

The severe desert climate made a lot of residents move to live underground, in caves. A cave home usually has three bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and lounge that are excavated out of the rock in the hillsides. Such homes don’t require air-conditioning, because they remain at a constant temperature while summer temperatures on the surface can reach 40-50 degrees Celsius (over 100 degrees Fahrenheit).

The trees you can find in this town are iron welded. You can play golf at night only to avoid hot temperatures. The local golf is free of grass that is why players take a small piece of tee-off turf with them.

Mummy findings in Peru

In Lima, Peru, there is one huge ancient pyramid in the middle of the town. Now they have found something strange on the top of it; four old mummies. Mummy and pyramid, nothing strange you think, but the thing is that three of them are sacrificed children, and the fourth is a woman. Archeologists believe that the children were buried with the woman so they could be with her in the afterlife. The mummies are 1150-year-old, and that they belonged to the Wari culture. They are found with fake heads that are made out of cloth, but the bodies are definitely real. Among other things they found 11 drinking vessels, six bags with corn and sewing tools, and a ceramic bowl.
